The Role of Underground Space in Future Sustainable Cities

Getting There

By Metro

Dubai Metro is a driverless modern fully automated rail system with red and green lines. Each line passes through a number of stations that are designed by architects and artists. The stations have a variety of features for customers including retail outlets, Wi-Fi internet, ATM machines and other services for People of Determination. All services are linked to a wide network of other means of transport such as buses, taxis, and water buses.

The Red Line runs from Rashidiya station to UAE Exchange station. The line consists of 29 stations and provides free multi-storey vehicle parking for public transport users at the Rashidiya station, Nahkeel Harbour and Tower station. The Green Line consists of 18 stations and runs from the Etisalat station which provides multi-storey vehicle parking and passes through the Dubai Healthcare City and Jaddaf area. The line ends in Dubai Old Souk located in Al Khor region. Passengers can transfer between the 2 lines either at the Union station or at the BurJuman station.

By Bus

This service enables you to use buses provided by the Roads and Transport Authority through a fleet covering a network that has many internal routes inside Dubai and that is periodically updated to serve practically all metro stations and urban regions. These buses are equipped with many facilities to meet the needs of the customers and to make their commute secure and easy.

To travel on the Metro and public buses within Dubai you must buy a Nol card or a Nol ticket, available at all metro stations and select bus stations.

By Taxi

Taxis are plentiful and affordable in Dubai and operated by RTA through five companies (denoted by different colour roofs). All RTA taxis are metered at the same rate, with the exception of the 'pink' ladies-only cabs for which there is a small surcharge.

To book a taxi from any pick up point of your choice call 04 208 0808 (24hrs, operated in Arabic and English) At the Exhibition Venue, there are 2 taxi drop-offs: opposite Ibis Hotel and in front of Zabeel Hall entrance. Taxi pick-up point is located opposite Ibis Hotel.

By Car

Rental cars are available from car rental companies for visitors with international driving license. Driving in the UAE is on the right-hand side. If you are coming with your own car, you have the options of free and paid parking. See the Parking section for more details.
